This brilliantly kitschy spot is decked out like an Australian home from the 1950s, with nostalgic Australiana touches such as bowls of plastic fruit, chrome and vinyl tables and chairs, menus printed in Little Golden books and a black-and-white TV playing in the corner. Locals reckon it's the best cafe in the Dandenongs, and they don't seem to be alone, with tourists and passers-through joining them to make this cafe/restaurant one of the most buzzing spots around these parts.
The daggy yet oh-so-cool knick-knacks will keep you entertained while you wait for your hearty cafe meal or sip your coffee. On the menu are some great Australian choices (pie floater, anyone?) alongside more modern, contemporary cafe meals. Wash it down with a sarsaparilla spider and you've got yourself a great feed and a revisiting of childhood memories, all in one. Afterwards, go for a fossick in the adjoining antiques shop and find yourself a piece of furniture, clothing, music or knick-knackery to take a little bit of this place home with you.
