The Snooty Fox is nestled within the stately Old Adelaide Inn. From the first glimpse of the lobby's fabulous chandelier, this grand venue makes you feel very glam, evoking nostalgic longing for your Gran's old (fox?) fur stole. The delightful, old-school decor is part of the Fox's charm, so don't be surprised if you feel compelled to sip on a Pimms before being shown to your table. Just glide into the cocktail lounge and slip onto a distinguished leather banquette or perch on a regal high-backed chair.
Diners come here to business-lunch or for a dignified dinner. Despite the British fox hunt decor, the menu boasts brilliant Australian produce. SA oysters nip with their topping of Tabasco, lime and shallots. Plump Moreton Bay bugs are found pan-fried in a warm salad of Asian greens with a ginger, soy and rice wine dressing. The Australian antipasto plate showcases pheasant pate, Kanmantoo bacon crisps, smoked kangaroo, quandong chutney, and Mount Barker salmon.
The Onkaparinga kangaroo fillet is a stand-out main with its moisture locked inside pan-seared flesh, served with house-made potato salad and a piquant juniper berry glaze. For seafood lovers, the fruits de mer platter is laden with parmesan-crumbed prawns, salt and pepper squid, fish fillet, smoked salmon, oysters, and juicy garlic and ginger Moreton Bay bug tails.
