Built in 1897, The Seaview is one of Western Australia's oldest trading hotels. You wouldn't know to look at it though. Refurbished in 2006, its interior is now very modern and sophisticated and offers a contemporary restaurant and bar, as well as 22 hotel rooms upstairs. This makes it great for functions; your guests from out of town can relax and have a good night out, knowing they can forget about the taxi queue and get a good night's sleep upstairs.

Overcooked steak not such a treat
What has happened to The Seaview? A lot of tables have disappeared and so has the great food, it seems. Going to The Seaview used to be a real treat - you were guaranteed a great meal, great service and hand-cut-chips even with their basic steak burger!
The hand-cut-chips are no more (the steak burger now comes with onion rings) and the 'mains' regular meals leave much to be desired. My friend and I both ordered the fillet steak, one medium-rare and one medium. Both arrived (very) well done. We had to saw through them with our knives. What a shame! They looked like such nice pieces of steak! And the mash, mushrooms and sides were delicious. I also cannot fault the service but other tables had half-eaten meals being returned as well - not a good sign.
To their credit, the wait staff offered to take it back to the kitchen and for the chefs to re-do it, but we were short on time. When it came to paying, the manager knew we were dissatisfied, and so took the price of one glass of wine off our meal (possibly because we already had an Entertainment Book voucher). It would have been better to say, "Keep your voucher for next time" and still give us that discount because then we'd be back. As it is, we're very unlikely to return!
The Seaview is good value if you have a discount voucher (hand-cut-chips or no) but it's a bit hit-and-miss. Good for a pub meal but I wouldn't choose it for a celebration or group meal where you want everyone to have a guaranteed good experience.

the best steak sandwich in...
fremantle - perth - western australia! I've not eaten every steak sandwich on offer in WA. I don't want to. But in a chewy world of cheap beef and day old bread it is noteworthy when you find a reasonably priced ($15) steak sandwich that delights in doing every component just right: from the beatifully textured ciabatta to the melted (vintage?) cheddar this plate did everything just right. Even the chips were good! That it was all achieved in midst of a packed derby crowd is all the more credit to the chef (who obviously gives a damn about what goes on the plate). Thank you mysterious (master) steak sandwich-chef. You have restored my faith in a pub staple! The service: efficient but not friendly.

One of the nicest resturants we have visited
Came across this restaurant on the way to another, and my husband decided to stop as we had never seen it before. Glad we did! It was 7.30 Friday night and we got quite a nice table out the back, for the two of us without a hassle. Service was prompt and meals were served around 30-45 minutes after being taken, but two big parties had arrived just before us, and the waitress did apologise when she bought the food out. Food was beautiful, I had the sirloin steak and hubby had Scotch fillet, both medium and cooked to perfection. We always rate our restaurants on their steak. Atmosphere was relaxed and laidback with cafe style jazz music in the background. Lights were low and people were really enjoying themselves, we had a lovely time, and have marked it as one to go back to. Oh and if you have an entertainment book it is pay for one meal and get one for free, even better!

Appauling Service and food not that impressive either!!
I recently visited the Seaview with a small bunch of girlfriends for a Sunday lunch. The place is quite nicely decorated and has an outside section. The staff were very unhelpful throughout our meal, when they finally came over to take our drinks orders, we ordered garlic bread which took over half an hour to come out, then another 10 mins after we finished that to take our mains orders, then a staggering 50 mins wait for the mains! I ordered the steak which was i admit cooked well although it came with a hair. I carefully ate around it too scared to re-order because of the wait! The others complained of tasteless meals and especially of the service.
