The Royal

Descend the staircase to this decidedly upmarket and deceptively spacious bar/restaurant with arguably the best waterside views in East Perth. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors make the most of the stunning vista, but for thoroughly uninterrupted views, step outside onto the sweeping glass-walled alfresco area. In late spring, the flowering jacaranda trees add a dazzling splash of purple against the blue of the Swan River.

Breakfast offers a good range of savoury delights, but sweet sensations such as the french toast topped with vanilla ice cream and cinnamon sugar are equally as irresistible. The international menu changes frequently, keeping your dining experience fresh and exciting.

Nice view by the waterfront
I went to the royal with my friend for lunch. we made a reservation to dine al fresco and we were brought to our table promptly. the view by the waterfront was really beautiful - didn't quite felt like you were in perth. we had the garlic ciabatta which was really crispy and tasty. the chicken caesar salad wasn't too bad, the portion was huge though. the champagne cocktail was really delicious. can't wait to go back for dinner!

Poor food and service at The Royal
Had half a dozen Oysters Kilpatrick at The Royal on the Waterfront in East Perth. The oysters were small but fresh, overpriced ($4 each), and not terribly well prepared. Way too much Worcestershire sauce. The oyster shouldn't be swimming in sauce. Bacon should be cooked but preferably not burnt. This is the second time that I have ordered the oysters at The Royal, and the second time they have been presented in an unsatisfactory manner considering the price they charge. In contrast I also had half a dozen Oysters Kilpatrick at The Old Brewery Mounts Bay Road. They were perfectly prepared, and were $3.50 each. Where bars like The Royal get off charging restaurant prices for bar quality food and preparation is beyond me.

Typical pub fare
I ate here as part of a group on a Friday night. Oysters to start were small but tasty. Steak for mains was overcooked and not a very nice cut of meat. Meals took a long time to come out. It was an extremely busy night though so I can imagine the kitchen was struggling. Wait staff managed to keep service at a good level. Great mixed crowd.
