The Rose has undergone many resurrections and, like the phoenix that rises from the ashes, recently winged its way back into inner-city dwellers' popular rotation. Specialising in impressive gourmet pizzas, local tap beers and affordable cleanskin wines, its prime location ensures the sophisticated Port Melbourne crowd have a pleasant place to go to after (or during) work.

Disappointment +++
I have been to The Rose for pizzas at least 6 time since the management changed. The last time was within the last 12 months. Went there this week - and the menu is less than half the size, the drinks have gone up in price, and the pizzas are terrible. They have gone from thin based, flavoursome, tasty pizzas at about $10 each to supermarket type bases, tight in the toppings, and shredded cheese on a squid and rocket pizza! Won't be back!

Very disappointing
The Rose is under new management as of Easter 2009. Middle Eastern and Greek cuisine is no longer served, nor is wine served in a wine glass (dished up in the glasses that what would usually only ever accompany the jug of water at the end of the bar...)
Calamari was extremely salty (even my salt-o-phile girlfriend stopped after the first bite on the basis of salt overload).
Somehow they have managed to transform a thriving restaurant into a quiet and very ordinary experience where the only testimonial to their food came from the owner saying the other table really liked it.

Can't wait to return!!
We headed out to just trial The Rose, have a few small plates to see what the quality was like. We were extremely pleased all round. Friendly greeting when we walked in and seated with menus. After looking through the menu for a bit the chef came over asked us what we were interested in then suggested a few dishes. All three dishes were great! The calamari, some of the best we have had in Melbourne, The Loukanika (spicy Greek sausage) and the Saganaki were all great, and the sizes were reasonable too for the price. On top of this the sommelier chatted to us about what style of wine we liked and how much we wanted to spend per glass then gave us a taste of what he recommended which was spot on, and we ordered! The interiors were modern, with what appears to be casual dining and drinking in the front of the restaurant than more formal dining at the back of restaurant. Lighting was good, not too bright, calming/ relaxing colours used, overall a comfortable atmosphere to be in. The big screen at the front of the restaurant was a little unusual, but at this time they were playing Gordon Ramseys' 'The F Word' (sound off) which was fun to glance up to occasionally. Overall the food was great, the service outstanding, we can't wait to return for a full meal and also take friends back for a few plates and drinks!

very disappointing
We had heard very positive reviews about the Rose, and were very disappointed, meal sizes were ridiculously small and not great, service was only OK. Will not be returning.

Eat healthily
There is not much bad you can say about The Rose. The product is always consistent. We would go there regularly until we moved away from the area, but we still go there. If you want good fish, simply cooked and some pretty healthy accompanyments then there is none better this close to the CBD in this category. Waiters know what they are doing and the wine list (& ouzo/Tsiporo)makes for an interesting selection. Great produce, well cooked at a very good price. Bravo Chris & Harry, still making headlines after all these years and you know how to make a Greek salad.

A jewel (or is that a petal!)
The Rose is superb on every front. We've been a few times, and while it's by no means a cheap night out, it offers some of the best and freshest Greek-inspired cuisine around. We both had the dory - it was succulent and oh-so-tasty. The service is smart and efficient and the wine list is varied. Perfect for an intimate dinner, or a group of friends.
