You can enjoy the food at the Rice Table in South Yarra in two ways. The first and most popular way is as a quality cheap-eat, where authentic Indonesian cuisine is the hero. The main attractions are the chargrilled satays in peanut sauce and the various curry and rice sets on offer.
The second way is a more decadent experience, best enjoyed when you've got some time and some friends to share it with. It's a 14-mini-course feast, not unlike tapas or side plate meals, known as Rijsttafel, the Dutch word for 'Rice Table' (derived from the colonial feasts when the Dutch were in Indonesia). Whichever you choose, the Rice Table is sure to offer an interesting entry into tasty Indonesian delicacies.

Worth a try, for sure
We just keep going here. It's only a few doors down from our previous/equal favourite so I have to skulk past the other place in a small walk of shame whenever we choose The Rice Table instead. I love the Nasi Goreng set - lots of bits & pieces on your plate & the grilled satays are excellent. And a corn fritter! It's a little inconsistent - as though they have different chefs who do things their own way and sometimes it's so delicious and other times a bit ho hum. Friendly staff. Recommended.
