The Point

This South Bank eatery announces its presence with bright red awnings and the buzz of happy chatter spilling out of its doors. Most of the seating at The Point is alfresco and undercover, allowing for a laidback outdoor dining experience without being brutalised by the weather. The interior is as bright and sharp as the Queensland sun, with accents of shiny red firming placing the restaurant in the category of a chic contemporary bistro. The modern Australian menu betrays the Gallic roots of chef Bruno Richeux, with French classics regularly appearing - albeit after an Aussie workover that makes the most of Queensland produce, and includes a hint of Asian and Mediterranean flavours to please the local palate. For those who are after something a bit lighter, perhaps accompanied by a wee drinkie or two, there is a range of tapas plates available. Diners could choose to take their nibbles upstairs to the mezzanine floor where The Point has constructed a sleek cocktail bar - a destination in itself.

Amazing Food and Service!
After having to cancel our original date for 14 adults and 3 kids,at the last minute, I didn't think they would be too happy with us. However, they were extremely understanding.
We were finally able to rebook 2 months later and had the most amazing night.
The entree's were delicious, but the Mains were unbelievable. The crust on the Barramundi was to die for and the sauce with the pork was devine.
Our waiter was fantastic. The thing I liked the best was that he treated our children really well, and spoke to them and laughed with them.
I feel he did very well putting up with our shinanigans! We weren't exactly quiet!!!
Thank you! You should be extremely proud! We can't wait to come back!

An absolute blast for 33 guests
I recently celebrated a birthday dinner with 33 guests, booking out the entire upstairs mezzanine floor. From the very first inquiries, staff were incredibly accomodating, answering questions and offering many helpful suggestions.

This generosity was likewise true on the night. The many guests I spoke to were very impressed with the quality of the service and congeniality of the staff. The atmosphere was wonderfully festive and the tables beautifully decorated. Guests were equally impressed with their meals. Staff were exceptionally caring in regards to how I was enjoying my night and were attentive to all details such as cake, timing of meals, food recommendations etc.

It was an absolutely fantastic night, many commented on what a blast they had, and are looking forward to coming back again!

Birthday dinner
We took our friends from England to the point for one party members' birthday. After much debate on where to eat at Southbank we settled on the point as the menu looked impressive. We were seated promptly with a big smile, and given some tap water when seated. When it came to ordering half the food from the menu was unavailable due to having a busy night the night before. We feel we should have been told this before we sat down. While waiting for our mains we shared at calamari, which was nice, but the sauce a little bit over-powered by lemon. We received our mains, but not yet our drinks. Steaks were cooked perfectly, although when specially requesting an alteration to the dish it was ignored. Before we had recieved our mains the wait staff started packing up and folding all the tables around us and blowing out the candles. This made us feel most unwelcome. By the end of our meal our plates were cleared, but no dessert offered, and the bill delivered promptly. This was upsetting as it was a birthday dinner we would have liked to have a peice of cake. After spending $187 we left feeling disappointed.

Excellent Meal, refreshing service
Had a fantastic meal at The Point last night, being my 3rd time to the restaurant I thought it was well worth the effort to let others know. The food here is exceptional, fresh, perfectly cooked and great balance of flavours with good portion sizes. I had the haloumi salad and then the lamb for a main and there was nothing I could fault. The staff were excellent and their service outstanding, so nice to see happy waiters and waitresses serving with enthusiasm and a smile, makes the dining experience so much more enjoyable. I have been put off several Brisbane restaurants because of the appalling attitude received by wait staff. I would highly recommend The Point to anyone. They even called me this morning to see how the evening went and whether I was happy with the food and service. I was most definitely.

Loved the breakfast!
I find it very hard to get a good breakfast in Brisbane. Last Sunday my boyfriend and I went to the Point in South Bank. It looked very flashy and the items on the breakfast menu sounded all very tasty. Service was great and all staff members seemed very much "awake" for a Sunday morning. I had the French toast and my boyfriend had the grilled ham. Both were fantastic. We will be back!

Dinner at The Point
Myself and my wife dined at The Point for the first time on Saturday evening, a recomendation from a work friend. This was a fantastic experience! From the moment we were cheerfully greeted at the door to the moment we left and 3 different people thanked us for being there. The restaurant was packed but we still felt as though we were the only people in the restaurant because of the attentive service. The food was supurb and the waiter recomended all the dishes and wine which made our night even more relaxing. We overheard other people commenting on how good the service was and how happy the staff were. It was a great night and I will certainly be telling all my friends at the office.

We took some overseas friends to The Point for dinner. After sitting at our table for almost 20 minutes, we had to ask for somebody to come and take our orders, both for drinks and food. Food and drinks arrived promptly, and three out of our four dishes were nice. The fourth dish was the scallops and they were burned and therefore tasted bitter. Dishes were cleared quickly after we finished, but nobody asked if we wanted to see the desert menu or order coffees. After finishing our drinks and sitting at an empty table for a while, we had to ask to be given the bill.
It's a shame, because the venue location is great. Staff seemed very disinterested, and merely polite rather than friendly.

The Point
I have had the pleasure of conducting several meetings for my business at this venue and have found all the staff to be wonderful, helpful, attentive and very well presented. The venue atmosphere is excellent with open areas for seating with views of Southbank. Venue is also extremely well presented, great use of colour and layout! Food is great, being of French heritage myself I find this an extra bonus! Even the new staff I have interviewed here have commented. 10 points for all areas!
