Until recently most Newtownians would have drawn a loss when asked to name a good bakery in the area. Fast forward a couple of years, and where once absent now stands some mighty fine eats, beginning with the excellent pie and sausage roll offerings coming out of Black Star and the delicious house-baked artisan breads of Luxe. Add to them this latest mecca of oven baked goodness the Pie Tin and the residents of 2042 have themselves a gastronomical equivalent of a bake sale.
Gone are the days of the gristle and gravy slop-fest; herald the age of Moroccan lamb with chickpea and cumin served with kumara mash and lentils. The decor is also a revelation, with shelves littered in vintage kitchenalia and plenty of chic comfy seating.
