What a night!!
Visited Oyster Bar last night, what a top place to watch the sun set over Perth. Views were great but the food was sensational. Oysters were best I've had, plump and juicy. My wife had the seafood trio for mains, no snapper available so substituted with dhufish. She declared it to be a great meal. While I love great seafood, I'm a sucker for a steak, chef's special was Black Angus Sirloin, this was amazing, so tender it just melted in the mouth.
The service was excellent, quiet and unobtrusive yet very knowledgeable. They knew just when to appear and when to stay away.
We will be back to sample more of the food here, to enjoy the great service and take in the views of Perth.

One of the best Oyster Bars - let down by poor service
Meads has always been one of my favourite restaurants, with the Mosman Park and South Perth being my favourites.
Oyster Bar on the Foreshore has the advantage of a gorgeous modern setting with a live pianist and panoramic views of the Perth city skyline. The atmosphere is stunning. It's a little noisy at times as the restaurant is almost always near-full on a popular night.
The food is usually up to standard, depending on what you order. Seafood is what they do best, such as sumptuous fish fillets with the traditional buttery, smooth potato mash (slightly different in flavour to the other Meads). And who can fault their many oyster selections - even though they are on the smallish size or their dessert?
The only letdown was the service. The restaurant is understaffed and even with an apology (yet again) from the manager that when people all arrive at once, the chefs are flooded with work. We waited an hour for our meals and some of them were served cold!!! (Including a risotto - served cold is an unpardonable sin). Our water jugs remained empty most of the night and unfortunately, out of the four Oyster Bar restaurants in Perth, the South Perth one has the worst service. It won't stop me returning to the restaurant but I have left appropriate feedback and am still waiting for it to improve.
On an aside - a word to the waiter and the risotto was quickly reheated.
Mosquitos at night are bothersome and I'm surprised the restaurant didn't have any insect-repelling candles.
Those gripes aside, Oyster Bar in South Perth is a fantastic place to catch up with family or friends. It's suitably casual and chic with seafood to match.
Recommended? Yes.
