Renowned for being Perth's premier steakhouse, the Old Brewery - located on the site of the Old Swan Brewery - has been injected with new life since new management took over in 2007. Diners can carve up a plate of grass-fed Black Angus beef T-bone steak ("exclusively dry-aged for 28 days"), or perhaps tuck into the almighty 1.5kg Tomahawk steak, one of Australia's largest steaks, which made a stunning debut at the Old Brewery in May, 2009.
The Brewery's vast menu of quality meaty meals doesn't shy away from the humble burger either; you'll find a wagyu beef pattie, Swiss cheese and bacon in the Brewery Burger, which comes with a side-serve of hand-cut chips. For something a bit different, you could try the red duck curry with pineapple and basil salsa. The Old Brewery also has the elegant Thomas Hardwick Room available for corporate and private events. And of course there's the dazzling views of the Swan River for diners in the lovely alfresco area.

simply good food
Sauteed chorizo delicious. Lamb brains umm...not too sure about that one. Soft shell crab delicious. The tomahawk excellent as always. Don't go weekend coz you'll get surcharged 10% :(

Is there a theme developing here?
One main thing lets this place down - the service. Bored, indifferent, disinterested, wouldn't look us in the eye, sighed when a member of the party asked if there were vegetarian options (she 'supposed' the chef could do something). Can't even remember the food - because the memory of the service is so overwhelming. This was our work Christmas function and none of us at the table will be returning!

Great experience
Not being big eaters my boyfriend and I decided a tasting plate and garlic prawns to share would be a good way to go with a good bottle of rose. Tasting plate is the best I've had in Perth. Service was friendly and professional and the view was fantastic. This was a truly wonderful experience for both of us.

loved it
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good steak, beer, service and river views.
The menu has so many different steaks to choose from. But not to worry as the man who served us talked us through the different cuts and best ways to have it cooked which was impressive. He even brought out the huge 1.8kg 'tomahawk' to the table to show us. We couldn't refuse the challenge of taking on the 'tomahawk' which was carved at the table and served out to the three of us that shared it. Very tasty!
The wheat beer is delicious along with the pale ale which understand is brewed in their very own micro brewery.
A good place to entertain your guests and clients as I haven't seen anything like this place in Perth.
Highly recommended.

Lunch At the Old (Swan) Brewery
This was my first visit since the establishment was renamed from the Old Swan Brewery.
In summary we were totally disappointed, too expensive with service that was embarassingly bad.
The food itself was average and accordingly I will never visit this venue again !

Lunch
Only in Perth for a few days, I am glad to say that I enjoyed a Sunday afternoon at the old brewery for very nice lunch overlooking the Swan River. The restaurant is modern with crisp white table clothes, with tables inside and out. The menu caters for all tastes (meat lovers especially) and I can recommend the Wagyu Beef Burger and the Lamb Salad. The bar was able to whip me up a very nice mocktail and had an extensive wine list to suit all budgets. Service was quick and friendly, ambience was fabulous, the crowd seemed to be pretty trendy and all in all I had a great day. Highly recommended.

Must try the beef tartar!
My husband and I had heard great reviews about the Old Brewery since the new management took over. Since we are both meat lovers we thought we would check it out with some friends over from Melbourne. We were not disappointed!
We had drinks at the bar to begin with and ended up staying there for well over an hour so the guys could try all of the beers they brewed.
Once we sat down, we were starving. We ordered a selection of entrees and shared them. The soft shell crab was really tasty as was the whitebait - not like any whitebait I've ever had.
Then there was the beef tartar - OMG! I cannot tell you how good that was. Our friends had never had it before and were not really expecting to like it. We thought we would get one to share just to taste it. We ended up ordering another one and were still left wanting more!!
For main course I had the Wagu sirloin which was by far, the tastiest steak I have ever eaten. Really melt in your mouth stuff. The boys had a huge steak to share that was carved off the bone by our waiter. The steaks come pretty much on their own and you order sides. Any sauce you can think of plus we had mushy peas, macaroni cheese, potato bake... All the things I love to eat but when I cook them they never taste like that!
I topped the night off with the most beautiful lime creme brulee - what more could a girl want?
Our waiter was great. He knew what he was talking about with the menu and when we asked a question he did not know the answer to he went and found out the answer for us.
The chef came into the restaurant later in the evening. He did not talk to us but he did talk to a lot of people (they can't all have been friends!). Ir was nice to see a chef who is obviously proud of his food and is not afraid to chat with his customers.
It was a cool evening so we sat inside and kind of forgot about the view once we left the bar. I agree, the cow hide bench seats are very cool!
The whole night was wonderful but the food was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as did our guests and will we definitely be going back.

Carnivore Heaven!!!!
The restaurant looked really impressive - grand, dark timbers, cow-hide on the chairs, very cool. Service was good, non-invasive - not outstanding but pretty good for Perth these days. Menu very impressive - love my steaks and there was so many to choose from - even 1.4kg rib eye for 2 or 3 to share, chef even bings an extra table to yours and craves it right in front of you, very cool. The wine list was superb and their brand new tap beers weren't bad either! Loved the Riverside Lager, wish I could get in it bottles but they only do it on tap. All in all, I was very impressed and it was certainly much, much better than when I went last year.

Beautiful views, shame about everything else
We have consistently experienced poor service and mediocre food at The Old Brewery in the past but were willing to give it another go after a one-year hiatus. We walked in for lunch on a weekday and went in search for staff to ask for a table. The service from all the staff was very cold. We shared an entree-size tasting plate from the specials menu and were surprised by how bland some of the dishes were. The fish and chip main was not an improvement and by far the worst I've had in a pub/cafe setting. What really struck me was that none of the staff asked how our meals were despite the fact that we left so much on the plate. Given the poor quality of the food we ordered and the indifferent and unfriendly service, the Old Brewery is very overpriced. Not even the beautiful views are worth it.

Appalling service, nice views
As we haven't tried the Old Brewery before, our organisation booked this place for our Christmas work do.
SERVICE - Absolutely awful. We arrived and waited some 5-10 minutes before we had to literally stop someone in their tracks to assist us (and there were lots of staff walking past). We booked tables for indoors weeks in advance, but they claimed they were booked out and wouldn't let us sit inside, ushering us outside instead. We asked to speak with the person we made the booking with - they wouldn't let us. Didn't bother to help us further.
EXPERIENCE - We put up with the wind and cold, but by dessert we couldn't stand it anymore - we all had to go inside and grab the lounges before they were occupied. We were served our desserts while huddled on the sofas.
ATMOSPHERE - Nice views and atmosphere outdoors and indoors.
FOOD - We had the set Christmas menus consisting of turkish bread and capsicum dip, soup, choice of snapper or turkey and ham as mains, and pudding for dessert. To be fair, it was OK, but didn't wow me. Flavours were a little bland. It was pretty pricy for what we got.
RECOMMENDATION - NO. The poor service made our experience less than enjoyable. Even the wonderful views of the Swan River couldn't make up for it.
