Surrounded by leafy trees and gardens near the banks of Lake Burley Griffin, this art gallery-cum-restaurant is part of the original caretaker's residence. It's completely family-friendly, and lets you feel as though you've escaped from the city crowds to a pleasant little country town. Many a cyclist drops in from a ride around the lake for a superb breakfast.
Brekkie options include tantalising variations on classics such as the salmon or mushroom Benedict; while lunch can consist of anything from Moroccan chicken to chickpea and pumpkin curry. The Oaks Brasserie is also renowned for being a dog-friendly establishment - dogs on leashes are welcome and there are even canine meals on the menu, such as yesterday's chipolatas.
