The name says it all at this stylish Southbank eatery. Steaks are the specialty, with the menu boasting an excellent selection of super-aged meats. Diners can choose from such cuts as rump, fillet or rib eye, all available with a variety of side sauces. The menu also includes a range of chicken dishes, burgers and seafood - and for those non-carnivorous diners, there is a selection of salads and a token vegetarian dish available.

Recommended by friends and as we were celebrating our 27th wedding anniversay decided on this restaurant. Couldn't have enjoyed more, steak was extremely tender and not tough which is often the case when asked for well done. Service was to top class and atmosphere beautiful. Will certainly be back and will highly recommended.

merely ok
There was nothing necessarily wrong with our experience at the restaurant- it all went smoothly enough. Service was decent, the atmosphere was nice, but it wasn't particularly impressive. We went because we had a craving for really delicious steak, and we assumed that since the restaurant was called the "meat and wine co" that was something they'd get right. The food was ok- not bad by any means, but I definitely wouldn't make an effort to go again.

Overrated and overpriced
After reading such good reviews I am wondering whether I was at the same place. We booked, as last year had tried to eat here on our annual trip to Melbourne and couldn't get in, and were told 7.30pm wasn't convenient but to come at 8pm, which we did and promptly were shuffled to the bar to sit there for 40 mins.
Eventually showed to a small, hot booth in the corner of the restaurant and eventually the order taken at about 9pm. By that time we were starving. The entree arrived with the herb bread, the entrees were bland although they looked presentable and the steaks were fatty and chewy. Very disappointing probably a good place for large groups with corporate credit cards - but personally I would not recommend this place its overrated and overpriced ($150 for 2 people).

To those who criticise, I doubt anything pleases you
I returned to the Meat and Wine Co with a challenge. I had been before as a couple, but this time I took a group in for my birthday. With the expert staff, knowledgable in their whole menu, we were given the same intimate atmosphere for the group that we had recieved as a couple. The food was exactly what we expected, living up to the reviews I had given it since making my first visit. I did enjoy the views from our table overlooking the river, with the city lights bouncing off the water.

Beautiful
Amazing. We went there last night, and although we didn't have a booking we stayed and had a drink in the bar and they arranged a table for us. Dinner was great, I had the prawns and was pleasantly suprised. My partner had the 500g steak and is usually not easily pleased. He loved it! Excellent friendly and knowledgable staff with mix of atmosphere about the place. Can't wait to go back!

For a place that specialises in steak - very average
Ordered a rib eye (medium rare). Came out well done. Returned it (not something I would normally do but for a place that specialises in steak would expect them to have some idea on how to cook one). Came back blue (very rare) with no comment from waiter. Maybe was just learning. However is a nice place with a good atmosphere.

Always a great meal
Afeter visiting the meat & Wine Co three times now I have a great experience on every occasion. My wife loves the ribs and I always order a steak that is far too big but I eat it anyway. The staff are always friendly and knowledgable, especially the last time we were there the young lady was obviously being handed a hard time from another table but in a true professional manner treated us with a great smile and I really appreciated that! Also the comfort factor is a big plus for me. The wine list is outstanding in choice. Always enjoy my time here and will continue to return.

Too Long A Wait
Place looked OK, but having to wait up to 2 hours for our mains (3 of which were cold), one and a half hours for some bread and over 45 mins for wine, it was so not worth it. Suffice to say we had coffee and dessert elsewhere!!

Steaks & Ribs
Service was great, nice outdoor atmosphere. The $50 ribs combo was ordered, it was good but nothing that special about it. The 200g steak was ordered with the chips and chili sauce - chips weren't all that great but the steak was nice and the sauce was different. Just at that price and with the reputation you'd expect it to be really good. I would go back to try something else and recommend it as a place to take out of town visitors.

Great Steaks, But Worth the Price?
After we sat down, we waited some time before we got served, then the steaks came out - delicious, however not sure the sweet basting on all the steaks matches well with red wine. Very pricey, including being stung for the sauce (in very small writing on the menu) on top of the price of the steak.

Modern Style with Service
Great place to sit down and enjoy a meal with good company. An interesting soundtrack ('70s, '80s, at least on one particular night), including music such as Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean', fitted strangely well with a contemporary, stylish atmosphere. Service was excellent and complemented well by a follow-up call the next day.
