Sitting in the heart of affluent North Adelaide is The Manse. The elegant exterior, circa 1882, belies the contemporary decadence that lies within. Inside the ornate walls, the space was once shrouded in a rather drab and outdated elegance, but a 2005 renovation has shaken the dust from this magnificent old building.
The interior of each of The Manse's five dining rooms combines the subtleties of yesteryear with design elements from this century's high-fashion houses. Black Ulf Moritz designer wallpaper stands out in the predominantly white rooms. Italian chandeliers hang over tables dressed in white linen and Jasper Conran at Wedgwood plates. The decor pays homage to the old, while celebrating the new.
On the menu, modern French cuisine is the order of the day. Each plate is prepared with a sharp eye for presentation. The end result is dishes that appear as art, set against the white tabletops like paintings on a gallery wall. Diners will more than likely find the obligatory escargot, sitting alongside such decadent choices as a smoked eel brandade, or roast pork belly with spiced pear.

World-class dining experience
Everything about the Manse is top-notch... The beautiful old manse has been updated with some elegant modern decor and generous attention to detail - even the bathrooms offer individual rolled towels for each handwash. The service is exceptional - not only are the staff extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine, they can talk about it without the slightest hint of pretension or condescension. This gives such a classy venue a very down-to-earth vibe. They also think of those extra details, like taking your coat on arrival, and holding the door to send you off when you leave, that make you feel that extra bit spoiled. Saving the best to last, the food: this is high art on a plate. The combinations will always surprise you, and even the presentation - eg, our amuse bouche served in a sardine can! This is not the sort of food that most people would ever cook at home, so just sit back and enjoy the ride. The serves are small enough to let you have 3 courses without feeling horribly stuffed, but you certainly won't go hungry either. And they are generous with their wonderful breads, home-baked on the premises and served with delicious French butter. I've eaten there 3 times over the last couple of years and each time has been a delight. If you've got a special occasion coming up - or just deserve a treat - go there.

The Manse
Went there to celebrate my son's 21st with a few friends. I ordered a cake beforehand which was brought in at the end by staff with candles and song and was absolutely divine! The food was very very nice. We were all "foodies with European eating experience", so not easily impressed. But the friendly, unpretentious staff, wonderful food and fantastic service made it an event to remember. My son wants to get back into fine dining after this, it reminded him what food should really be about: PLEASURE!

Magical . .
This place is heaven. The staff are fantastic - ultra professional. The food is visually stunning and the tastes out of this world. I never thought I'd fall in love with a jerusalem artichoke sauce/soup! There is something ethereal about the building - I felt like I was in Paris!
