You'd never guess from its flashy wharfside digs that this was a stalwart of the Sydney restaurant scene, but this place has been serving up spicy Nonya cuisine since the '60s. The eatery's humble beginnings were on George Street, but the early noughties saw The Malaya up sticks and move to its ultra-modern space at the newly developed King Street Wharf. In between covetous glances out the window at the luxury craft on the water, diners can tackle an extensive menu of South East Asian dishes. Favourites such as laksas, Malaysian-style curries and stir-fried noodles are joined on the menu by such house specials as Szechuan eggplant; or otak otak: white fish with chilli and spices, wrapped in a banana leaf and barbecued.

Amazing!
I was grateful for a booking as this place was PACKED! Always a good sign I think. Great service by staff...drinks were seen too straight away, and the wine list was excellent. Food was beautiful, nice and fresh - and hot! The menu was very broad. Good place for group bookings! Would definitely return.
