A Paddington and Woollahra institution, this massive ivy-bedecked building dates back to 1890 and retains all the olde worlde charm you would expect of such an ancient edifice. The interior is a virtual rabbit warren of tiny rooms, and enough old-fashioned English-style furnishings to make a homesick Pom weep. Lunch and dinner are served in several of these cosy spaces, including the garden - a glass-ceilinged, jungle-like space of hanging plants and dappled sunlight.
The menu borrows a bit of British flavour from the surrounds with a lamb and rosemary pie, an Irish casserole and (for the truly staunch) crumbed brains with bacon. This honest, hearty pub fare might be joined on the blackboard by a chicken liver pate with melba toast or a seafood risotto. The Lord Dudley truly shines in winter when one can thaw their frostbitten (well, relatively speaking) toes in front of the fire with a plate of bangers and mash and a pint of Boddingtons.
