If walls could write, then those of The Lobby could fill a book about what has transpired within them. A longtime haunt for politicians and journalists, the Lobby has been home to many a secret discussion. Less of a secret is the quality of the food, with the kitchen producing fine modern Australian cuisine.

Wonderful meal
I dined at the Lobby with a group of friends last night. The service was attentive and friendly but the food is where this restaurant really shines. Everything we ordered was brought to the table quickly, the serves were generous and the quality was truly outstanding. I rarely return to a restaurant quickly as we are so spoiled for choice in Canberra but I can guarantee I will be back at the Lobby as soon as possible.

Exquisite
As usual this fine establishment lived up to its reputation as one of Canberra s best. The venue itself was stunning. Located deep within the nation s political heart, the building provided us with views of beautiful rose gardens and parklands through its magnificent glass structure. The wait staff were prompt, attentive and helpful and the food (very well priced) was delicious. A memorable occasion highly recommended.

Mother's Day luncheon - not recommended
Mother's Day lunch with a set menu for $100 a head in a beautiful location should conjure expectations of a great day to remember. Not so at The Lobby. A simple but only reasonably-well executed menu from the kitchen was delivered at lightening-fast pace by the ill-trained and careless front of house staff. We were left waiting at the entrance for some minutes on arrival, only to be seated at the table with no offer of menus or drinks for another 5 minutes. Service was aloof and abrupt, with little or no wine or produce knowledge from one of the two staff. A rushed service and we were left with no option but to leave. No we weren't farewelled at the door, no even a sideways glance from the staff. I hope their normal service nights are of a better standard.

Simple
I visited the Lobby last week for dinner. The food was average and the service wasn't that great.

Geart location
Simple short menu. All executed well. Attentive service, though not too friendly. Fantastic location on the verandah amongst the trees. Bill was largish, though bread and amuse was complimentary. Finished with good espresso coffee, bit on the warm side.

Disappointed
Have you ever eaten a soup from a coffee cup? Well, maybe it's slightly bigger but definitely smaller than a small tea cup (not a mug!). All other meals was rationed to the minimal and to be honest I've never seen before such a small portions especially in contract with a huge bill. Well, the rose garden opposite The Lobby is the only attraction in my view to lure people there. Sorry, guys, never again.
