Very pleasing!
As The Little Snail was located just down from our hotel, we dined at this restaurant on two separate occasions, and we were very impressed.
On our first visit, we had the $55 three course menu, and each course was sensational. My husband and I were very full. The salmon terrine for entree was divine and my steak was fabulous. The portion size was fantastic. We were also particularly impressed by how well they catered for our two young children, one of which has food allergies. Although our son could not have exactly what was on the children's menu, the chef adapted the dish beautifully, and the children thoroughly enjoyed their meals. On the second visit, we ordered just a main meal from the menu an another from the children's menu, and again it was wonderful. The adapted dish for my son was again, just fantastic. Not only did the chef omit the allergens, but gave him a special version of the same dish that had plenty of flavour.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Little Snail, and have since recommended it to friends, should they visit Sydney and stay at Darling Harbour. It was also a fabulous introduction for our children to fine dining. They really did enjoy their special meals at this restaurant.

It's not the same as yesteryear
We had dined at the little snail some years back in their Broadway location and had fond memories of a delightful French restaurant with atmosphere. So we decided to revisit it in its Pyrmont location.
First of all the location is disappointing. There are large glass windows to allow an outlook onto the Darling Harbour area. However this just does not work as the view is very disappointing and cluttered with the sides of buildings and traffic.
The food was adequate, rather than the something special as our memories of the Little Snail led us to expect.
The menu was a fixed price menu for three courses and we were somewhat surprised that our waiter wanted us to order our dessert at the same time as our entree and main. The courses were then served promptly, but we were certainly rushed through our meal. In fact we had to request that our dessert not be served as soon as our main was removed from the table. We had the impression that the restaurant was providing a very fast meal before one moves on to other Darling Harbour attractions. Perhaps this is what many require, but it was disappointing when we were looking for an enjoyable experience. Here we were simply fed and moved on.
The price for what we had was reasonable and this is a reflection of the fixed price menu. However, as we had hit the street after paying the bill, we were left with a feeling that we had been fed but it was not a worthwhile experience.

Disappointment at the Snail
I had been here before and had no complaints. This time after checking on the internet if prices were approx. the same and if it was BYO looked forward to our visit. I turned up with my own wine and was told "We are NOT BYO". After we had tried to explain to the snotty waiter that we would like to see the al'a carte menu and not the specials menu he become quite shirty and just told how much we would expect to pay - $20 for entrees and mains and $12 for desserts. If the group was not settled I think we would have got up and left at this point. We end up ordering the specials menu, which was lovely but as a few of us had been here before we would have made a choice. The management did offer free garlic bread, salads and coffee to make ammends.

Great restaurant
Because I feel really bad having forgotten to leave a tip, I post a review here - this restaurant deserves one. The food was really good, awesome snails (I don't like that in France, but here it was just perfect), original prawns, very very very good duck breast and wonderful creme caramel. Even the champagne was perfect! The waitstaff were friendly and advised us on entrees (even if one just forgot the special fork for the snails) and a wine. Maybe two things I have to say is that the bread (baguette) was not that good, but I am a bit picky on this topic and that our plates (and stomachs, just after) were not full enough with the tasty French food. But anyway, I will recommend this restaurant to any nostalgic French person and to anyone who want to eat tasty French food!
