Take an 80-minute drive south of the centre of Sydney and pull up a seat at any of the Lagoon Restaurant's tables. Here you'll enjoy a view to North Wollongong beach as you dine on famously fresh seafood.
Brother and sister duo, Jonni and Andrew Harrison, have established a reputation in the Illawarra for their quality sea fare and relaxed dining. The Lagoon's menu draws on the regional secrets of Australia, utilising bush herbs and fresh produce to bring out the natural flavours of such sea treats as king prawns, Queensland mud crab, Sydney rock oysters, and West Australian scampi.
For a taste of the Northern Territory, try the Barramundi Kakadu - roasted in paperbark and served with mango and macadamia nut salsa - or sample freshly-shucked Sydney rock oysters prepared in one of nine different ways.
A word of advice for first-time diners - the location is fairly secluded, so don't be afraid to call the restaurant for directions.
