Opening on the site of Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Melbourne, the Kitchen Cat may have had a makeover and no longer have Oliver's name attached to it, but the essential offering has remained, mercifully, the same. Co-owners Tobie Puttock and Adam Garrisson are still in charge, with Puttock at the helm in the kitchen creating the rustic provincial Italian that has Melbournites swooning. The interior of the basement eatery looks brighter and lighter with an open kitchen and plenty of mirrors, and with cured meats hanging from the ceiling, has a decidedly Italian bent. The social conscience is still there too, with a new foundation picking up where Oliver's left off to train disadvantaged youths to work in the kitchen of this and many other participating high-profile Melbourne restaurants.
