Melbourne's Hotel Charsfield is one of St Kilda Road's best examples of Victorian architecture, a handsome building that's been an icon in the district since its erection in 1889. But beyond the historic arches you'll find a restaurant dedicated to contemporary cuisine - French dishes with a smattering of Middle Eastern ingredients. The menu changes daily, allowing the chefs to incorporate the freshest of seasonal produce. Expect entrees as varied as asparagus with poached egg and hollandaise sauce; and chermoula spiced sardines with tabouli. Mains have a meat focus, with dishes such as roasted chicken breast with sauteed radicchio, parma ham and a creamy tarragon sauce.
