The Horn

Formerly a Mediterranean eatery, this restaurant has taken an exotic southern swing toward Ethiopia. A traditional Ethiopian chef has been installed in the kitchen, spinning out fragrant African dishes. The evocative name refers to the jutting point of the continent where Ethiopia is located (seriously, get your minds out of the gutter, folks), but also refers to the restaurant's regular live jazz nights. Diners can sit surrounded by Ethiopian artefacts, nibbling on the country's unique cuisine and listening to the toe-tapping notes of a jazz band. Dining experiences don't come much more unique than this.

Could be better.... a lot better
I have enjoyed the food the Abyssinian have served and was quite happy to find out that there is an Ethiopian restaurant in nearby Fitzroy. The flavour was good but it could have been better. It lacked the punch and the flavour seem to not round off well. It lacked a certain something. The serves were not sizeable in relation to the amount of the bill.
No one bothered to ask us if we wanted a drink and when we were going through the beer menu of unfamiliar drinks, the male attendant showed frustration. Seriously, they are unfamiliar beers and it would be nice to have a moment to choose.
The place had a good buzz about it.

Visiting from Brooklyn New York - great place for jazz and food
I was visiting my son and his girlfriend - they took my wife and I here for Thursday night jazz - the food was really good and not expensive (of course if the Aussie dollar would come down versus the US dollar it would be much cheaper).
I had never had Ethiopian food before and now I will be looking for food like this when I go back to NYC.
Thanks folks - it was a great last night in Melbourne.
