Sydney tree-changers Tanya Harrison and Scott Alford have brought a city dining concept to Orange with this recently opened lounge and restaurant. Sitting pretty on one of the town's grand old streets, the circa-1870 watering hole has been given a contemporary nip and tuck that's in keeping with its heritage status. Inside, that translates to a venue with soft earthy tones, quality fittings and a bar area for a quiet pre-dinner tipple.
The restaurant's modern Australian menu hits the right notes with an established crowd of regulars. Entree-wise, that means dishes such as macadamia- and coconut-crusted chicken strips; a seafood mezze plate; and beer battered king prawns. The mains part of the equation features mod-Oz staples such as oven-baked barramundi, beef medallions and slow braised lamb shanks, washed down with a bottle of local vino. Dessert lovers can tuck into apple strudel, a classic creme brulee or a crowd-pleasing sticky date pudding. Those who've arrived with kids in tow are greeted with a pint-sized menu that will hold plenty of appeal for the younger members of the family.
