I'll have it again
Excellent fish and chips, the snapper was really well cooked and chips were awesome. They had a huge range of freshly cut fish which all looked great.

Half the food at twice the price
If the goal of the Groper and his Wife was to ensure that we travel further in order to ensure we get a satisfactory meal the objective was achieved entirely. While the chips were dry and partially burnt the snapper was tasty, however, resembled a serving more akin to a course in a degustation meal. Sadly, with so much choice we will not be returning.

Really Good
Had Groper and His Wife Fish and Chips last night,(1st time in ages) couldn't deciede between Red Emperor or Pink Snapper, I was recommended the Pink Snapper, and it was sensational, I had it grilled, didn't have any chips(trying to be good), but had a salad (huge selection) it was also really good. The girl at the counter was very friendly, as was the general atmosphere. The other great thing is it is extrememly clean.

Great Food
I go to the groper all the time, it is consistantly the best fish and chips I've had. The produce is always fresh, the ingredients first rate. It's not the cheapest fish and chips around but it is a special eating experience. Everything is homemade from the salad dressings to the stuffed prawns. Some people prefer frozen and out of a bag but not me. Its been around a long time and its definitely the best.

Very average
I've had better fish and chips in Ballarat which is not even on the coast, and it didn't claim to be "gourmet". Sadly most of City Beach wouldn't know good food if it sidled up to them and clubbed them with a moist New Zealand hake. The place does do good fish pies though, and the service is friendly and affable. If they didn't claim to be gourmet I wouldn't be so offended. P.S. Their salads are good, but like everything else, startingly expensive.

For $75 (2 adults and 2 kids) we got the worst fish & chips I've ever had. The squid was dripping in golden oil, the fish was wafer thin, tough and smothered in very heavily oiled batter, the chips were dry, cold and tasted strange. The order was also wrong.
The salad was good!
