One of the growing chain of Groove Train eateries in Melbourne and Brisbane, this South Melbourne restaurant's actual appearance is quite different to the psychedelic image its name evokes. The dark interior and chunky leather lounges dismiss any hippie fantasies, while the wooden dining area cries 'comfy corporate hangout' more than 'peace, love and harmony'. In fact, apart from the host of iconic images lining the walls, the only sign of 'groove' is in the menu, where items like the burger, the lamb or chicken souvlaki and even the green Thai curry are prefixed with the title of 'groovy'. Then again, if you've just come for the warm couscous salads, tasty woodfired pizzas, pastas and risottos, maybe you don't need that much groove after all.

Terrible...
I live just around the corner from Groove Train and every time I end up there through desperation I promise myself that I will never return. The food is average at best and normally one-up from a tasteless dirge; the service is perfunctory with the staff far more interested in discussing their weekends with each other than serving customers; and (presumably due to the last two problems) the atmosphere is as depressing as large, dark empty spaces have a habit of being. I have ceased to be disappointed by this place and just avoid it whenever I can!

Average food, bad service
Definitely worst restaurant I've been to in Melbourne. Food was average which is fine, but the service was appalling. Table of 8 for a birthday and were never once asked if we wanted anything. Had to get up and ask for everything. Staff were rude, everything was too much of a hassle. Would never go again.

Starving
I saw the review above and knew you cannot judge a restaurant with one review. So we booked a table of 8 guests last Saturday. The food servings are huge, great value for your money. We were treated with a smile on arrival and left with one. Busy, busy, busy - what can I say. You can definitely see why the staff enjoy working here. Great work guys. See you again.

Worst resturant in South Melbourne
Bad service, so-so food, made to feel like you are a hassle to serve; didn't get what we ordered.
