For a restaurant set amongst the fuss and clamour of Melbourne's Chapel Street, the Greek Deli & Taverna is surprisingly inconspicuous. With a muted brick interior and simple black and white furnishings, it's a refreshing change for those looking to escape the city bustle and settle into some hearty Greek dining. Savoury risotti, souvlaki and choice lamb cutlets make up the more traditional menu options, while fried calamari and prawns also give it a fresh, contemporary twist. In homage to a much-loved Greek icon, the restaurant offers 'Zorba's banquet'- a feast of dips, saganaki, octopus, dolmades, Greek salad, calamari, prawns, mussels, meat platter and coffee. At $45 per person, it's good value for money.

not as good as expected
I had calamari & my partner had lamb & greek salad. Also had dips to start. All was nice but devoid of much Greek flavours such as garlic, lemon, pepper etc. Even the dips were lacking in any real flavour. The meals seemed like something one could quite easily cook at home. Nice food but for the price I would try elsewhere.

Lovely...
The service was warm and thoughtful, even for a busy Friday night. The food was delicious, the mussels with feta, tomato & chilli was fantastic! However I did find the lamb a little dry, but I guess that's to one's taste. A pleasant evening had by the whole table.
