Restaurant Information
The Goose
Sitting right next to the southern hemisphere's longest jetty, with nothing but a pathway and powdery white sand between the restaurant's front deck and the Indian Ocean, the outlook alone is reason enough to linger at The Goose. The building is similarly impressive - displaying a two million dollar fit-out, which is designed to match the picture-postcard huts on Busselton's iconic jetty. The contemporary lunch and dinner menus bring out the best of the region's prime produce, from the divine seafood chowder with prawns, scallops, mussels and barramundi, to the seared Margaret River venison with onion puree, eschalots and truffle oil. The breakfast menu includes such delectable options as field mushrooms with Persian feta, roma tomato and spinach on sourdough. On lazy afternoons people can indulge in tapas-style snacks while sipping on a caipirinha and drinking in the stellar ocean vista.

Good, not great, expensive, not cheap
We ordered entrees and mains. After a reasonable - bordering on too long - wait, we got out entrees. Squid was nicely presented and tasty, but nothing special - the dipping sauce was meant to be sweet and sour but was yellow. The chorizo was ok, but I am over it quite frankly, just how interested can fried chorizo really be?
Our mains took an absolute eternity to arrive. Several of us had the seafood chowder which the menu claimed was award-winning. While it was tasty it was far too chunky for me and was more like a stew than a chowder. The large piece of smoked salmon on top was gratiutous and a case of 'less is more' could be well applied. Service was good when it came to plying us with more wine, but cracked pepper was nowhere to be seen.
While an enjoyable evening, the bill was considerable, and the wait for the mains unacceptably long - I was more tired than hungry by the time they arrived. Would I go again? No - but a nice location with a great view of the jetty.
