Between Ballarat and Bendigo sits the former gold mining hub of Castlemaine, a richly historic country town with plenty of vintage charm. The Good Table is one of the newer and classier additions to the local dining scene, specialising in sophisticated but unpretentious European fare. One appetising example is the ravioli with gorgonzola and confit pear sauce, which illustrates chef Alexander Perry's commitment to rustic European cuisine. Similarly, The Good Table's atmosphere has a warm vibe, enhanced by the wooden floorboards, tables and chairs, the flashes of greenery and sunlight through the myriad windows, and the subtle watercolour paintings on the walls.

Superb Service and OUTSTANDING Food at The Good Table.
I have had very few dining experiences as memorable as my last visit to The Good Table. The degustation menu was beautifully put together and I couldn't believe how much I absolutely adored every single dish...Since my second visit (which happened very soon after my first visit!) I have found myself having little dreamy fantasies from time to time about those St Helens oysters...SUBLIME!!!!! Darling Hubby, I have decided what I want for my birthday, Mother's Day, Father's Day and any day when the sun shines...another meal at The Good Table...Make the trip people! Chef Alex is a magician, the prices are surprisingly reasonable and the service is remarkable!

Good Food, Good Service at The Good Table
The blurb says 'sophisticated but unpretentious European fare'. Add to that 'delicious and beautifully presented'. The ravioli with gorgonzola and confit pear sauce is divine. The battered sardines dish is superb. The churros served with chocolate sauce are heavenly and just not enough, no matter how many you have! The restaurant offers an extensive wine list and wine is available by the glass as well as by the bottle - this is a great way to taste some great wines! Set in a beautiful old hotel, the decor is tasteful with beautiful wooden floors and handmade wooden tables. The atmosphere is warm and pleasant, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Good food, good wine, good service and, I have to say, good prices! The Good Table is a wonderful breath of fresh air in the Castlemaine culinary arena.
