With its slick modern interiors and pleasant rooftop terrace, this corner-pub charmer in the heart of Fitzroy is as much frequented for the menu as it is for the drinks and delightfully casual ambience.
The occasional dining event is thrown into the mix, such as the popular Poachers Dinner, featuring succulent game meat, petit fours and glass of 'Ladies who Shoot their Lunch' shiraz.
However, the regular seasonal menu is excellent, with a mix of Aussie stalwarts and mod-Oz dishes which still lean more towards restaurant food than pub grub. The chicken parmigiana is hearty and dependable, while the grass-fed Angus porterhouse is chargrilled to perfection, served with roasted Jerusalem artichokes and Bordelaise sauce. Other eye-catching menu items include the confit lamb shoulder with parsnip and peas; the deep-fried salt cod with skordalia; and the pan-fried gnocchi with mushrooms, Meredith goat's curd and hazelnuts.
