Following the lead of the Sydney and Melbourne James Squire brewhouses, The Generous Squire finally brings the boutique brews and delicious chews to the Perth CBD. Opening up in late 2009, this ambitious venture is a gastro-pub par excellence, offering plenty of room for rowdy beers at the bar, or a cosy nosh session on the lounges. Beer and food are equally important here, so it's good to see pairings like the James Squire Original Amber Ale and the lamb, pumpkin, olive, feta and rosemary pizza. The culinary offerings don't stop there though - steak sandwiches, antipasto plates, paella, eye fillets and Tuscan chicken are just some of the other ways to fill up your tummy generously.

Just a fancy pub
Took my partner and a client from overseas here for dinner. The staff were very friendly, however when our overseas companion asked what was the chef's specialty, she replied, "oh i dunno" with a confused look on her face. The crusty bread entree was doughy, the mains came out, but they were just extra large pub meals with meat, chips & bok choy (that was the $44 sirloin). The paella was prepared earlier and was 'mushy'. Unfortunately it did remind us as being an overpriced pub, but in saying that they did have good beers, so maybe beers and snacks would be better off instead of ordering the meal.

Service & Sustenance in the City
We arrived without a booking, were greeted warmly and seated within 2 minutes. Drink orders were taken immediately and we didn't have to wait long for our meals. The food was tasty and generous. Being a pub, the atmosphere was lively - we had to weave through the crowded bar area to get to the restaurant - so perhaps not the best choice if you were planning a romantic tete-a-tete. For any other occasion, I'd heartily recommend the place.
