So you've spent the day admiring the paintings, listening to the audio tours and puzzling over the installations; you've even bought a mug featuring your favourite artwork. So what's left to do? Grab a bite to eat of course. Located conveniently next to the NGV International Shop, the Gallery Kitchen is the most relaxed of the venue's three eateries, making it ideal for an impromptu visit.
Though you can get something more substantial here (a quiche lorraine or spinach and ricotta cannelloni), the specialty of the house would have to be the sandwiches, with fillings all matched to their ideal bread partner. Spelt bread is topped with pastrami, green tomato pickle and caramelised onions; and Turkish bread envelops an unusual combination of honey roasted pumpkin with rocket, ricotta and almonds.
