Recently spruced up and given a new lease on life, the Fleece Hotel proves that Melbourne's gastro-pub scene is blossoming into something special. There's still a main sports bar that's decked out with plasma screens for big sporting matches, but many punters are likely to get cosy in the intimate lounge space or and the upstairs rooftop deck and restaurant area, replete with its own fireplace. On the menu you'll find more sophisticated mod-Oz fare than your usual pub grub; highlights include the Moroccan-spiced sweet potato pie and the barbecued duck, lychee, baby spinach and toasted coconut salad. Hooray for Melbourne pubs!
