The Diner is the latest addition to Trunk, Exhibition Street's food and wine precinct, and it creates a welcome alternative to the usual breakfast and lunch haunts that already flood Melbourne's streets. As an American-style diner, it has all the bacon-y goodness and Mexican-inspired tastiness we've come to love and expect from the States, as well as some good, clean, healthy fun in the form of soups, salads, and plenty of healthy breakfast options. But even if you make it through mains unscathed, the less-wholesome but more fun sweet menu, focusing on the food people really love to eat - think salted caramel popcorn, apple pie and breakfast waffles - is likely to entice you to the dark side anyway.
