It would be easy to see to see the latest opening from Matt Kemp as simply an offshoot of his original, Restaurant Balzac, but the Devonshire is much more than a spin-off. Indeed, the driving force behind this new Surry Hills diner is Kemp's protege and long-time sous, Jeremy Bentley.
The Devonshire's appeal is in its accessibility; it is at once a refined dining destination and a local neighbourhood bistro. Bentley has worked in restaurants the world over, from the obscurity of Indian restaurants in Adelaide to double-Michelin-starred restaurants in London, and his experiences come to the fore with his debut menu at the Dev. Expect modern cuisine with a solid foundation of classic technique; think timeless confit duck sitting comfortably alongside more contemporary cuisine.
