Elevated above Lake Burley Griffin, the Deck at Regatta Point has up-in-the-masthead-style panoramic views of the lake and Commonwealth Park - a rare boast in landlocked Canberra. Giving the venue its name is the massive wooden deck where diners can sit alfresco and enjoy the lake breezes. Alternatively, when the winds are just that little bit too crisp, the interior offers the same impressive views through floor-to-ceiling windows.
The Deck specialises in large events, so its evenings are reserved exclusively for functions, but during breakfast and lunch the cafe is open to the public for pastries and big brekkie fry-ups, steak sandwiches and other main meals.

Warning - Don't have a function there!!!
We recently had a function there and the food and service was terrible. Staff were very rude to guests, no drinks were served (staff could not keep up), the quality of the food was well below average. Extremely disappointing. A real shame given it is in the most beautiful location. Very very unprofessional. I strongly recommend that noone goes there. If you do go just buy an icecream and enjoy the view.

More surprised than disappointed
My family and I (group of 6) went to the deck for brunch yesterday. We arrived at 11am & did not have a booking. Quite a few of the tables on the deck were taken, one was reserved and another 2 had the remainders of coffees and cake waiting to be cleared. 2 female staff members were running in and out serving meals (looking very stressed yet trying to be pleasant). As we were not attended to by anyone, we decided to sit at a table anyway. After 15 minutes a male waiter briskly informed us (and I quote) "If you are ordering food, there'll be a long wait. Just coffees would be quicker". So we took his advice and just had drinks. Paying for our drinks also seemed a chore for the staff, who by this stage seemed completely out of their depth and confused. If only places like these had more competition for their services, they would have to 'up their game'.
