With a stunning outlook that includes the winery's olive and lime trees and of course the rolling vineyards beyond them, the atmosphere at this picturesque spot is pretty special. But even the view and relaxed vibe are secondary to the incredible menu served up by head chef Kerryn Oates, which changes regularly and features more locally produced ingredients than you can poke a stick at.
The spring menu could include gems like chargrilled kangaroo fillet with broad beans, asparagus and peas tossed with an almond butter and served with rhubarb chutney, or the baked Atlantic salmon with a pistachio crust on saffron potatoes and golden beetroot, and topped with mango salsa. After lunch, a trip to the tasting room is usually necessary to aid digestion, and may entice you to stick around for another bottle of wine.
Booking is vital, especially in the summer months, as McLaren Vale hots up and shows off its best for the increasing numbers of wine and food enthusiasts.
