By all accounts the Court House is much like a fine red wine - it improves with age. Like many establishments of the same name the nation over, the Court House is a place of ales and ashtrays. The certain something that sets this neighbourhood pub apart from every other corner watering hole is the eatery that can be found in the rear of the hotel.
Given one hat by The Age Good Food Guide in 2008, the dining room has a rather impressive selection of wines to go with their award-winning food. The modern European cuisine is steeped in tradition, from the techniques used to the flavours created. The efficient wait staff present diners, who comfortably position themselves at the linen-clad tables, with a rather comprehensive a la carte menu. On any given weekday guests can also opt for one of the two- or three-course lunch menus. Said choices are changed on a weekly basis and come with a complimentary glass of vino. You're not likely to find bangers on a bed of Deb potato here - thankfully. What you will find is stylish food that is pleasing to the pallet.

Good meal but a bit under expectations
(first to counter the previous post, menus are often only given after you have looked at the wine list and ordered so that you don't have to juggle both, and bread is to eat while you wait for your ordered entree/main)
Very happy with the entrees (kangaroo, octopus) excellent flavours and presentation. The mains however were decent but nothing spectacular. For a restaurant that has been reviewed well I had higher expectations from it.
A blackout occurred to during our meal and the waiters made no mention or apology for it afterward, which seemed odd.

Not worth it
For the money, we definitely did not get the quality or experience. - Menus were not delivered until we all ordered drinks - Bread was not delivered until we ordered food - 2 x steaks were grisly. The chille on them was not desired, nor offered in the menu I think - My lamb had some dehydrated peas that were still half dehydrated and really took the edge off the meal - The service was clinical In summary, there is much better value to be found easily. Deserts were fine, but the presentation lacking.

Beautiful dining experience. Wonderful food (800-day aged wagyu steak), excellent wine suggestion. Service was knowledgeable and swift. Expensive but worth it.

Solid But Doesn't Live Up to the Hype
Court House does the gastro thing pretty well, combining a small but well appointed dining room with a classy front bar. Big focus on service and wine as well as high quality/well presented food. Wine list is excellent for variety and price with a good smattering of Euro options. Dish range is a little tight with 6 offerings on both entree and main. Food is clearly well cooked and presented although the servings fall on the small side and the prices don't reflect this (ie value could almost be considered poor. Excluding value and cost possibly not Melbourne's best foodie pub (I'm not sure who is) but certaintly a leading contender. Entrees: $15 - $20, Mains: $38 - $38 and Desserts: $3 - $16.
