Should you ever lead an expedition to the South Pole, be sure to call in at The Colour Patch Cafe. As the sign outside advises, this is 'the last eating-house before the Antarctic'. This cute, riverside cafe offers homestyle, locally sourced fare, such as battered Blackwood River whiting; or Ringbolt Bay rabbit broth with dumplings and creamy mash. The view is pretty extraordinary, too. From the balcony, you can watch the Blackwood slip by on the last leg of its journey to the Southern Ocean.
