Quite the opposite of a grubby old corner pub, the Cherry Tree Hotel is instead a rather boutique gastro-pub set amid the industrial backdrop of the Cremorne end of Richmond. Look for the bright white art deco-style facade with red-lettered signage and you've found the spot. Equally slick are the bar and bistro inside, the former establishing this drinking den's credentials with its flabbergasting range of beers, covering local Victorian producers as well as Tassie, Western Australian, South Australian, New Zealand, Italian, Belgian, Czech and English ales.
While the bar menu of chips, pastas, salads, pizzas and steaks should be enough for most, the separate bistro offerings go above and beyond the call of duty. You can get a good a la carte dinner here filled with fare like pan-fried lamb backstrap, seared Australian brown trout and grilled kangaroo.
