Nothing very
Arrival- surly girl shows us to table. I hate to be ignored when I clearly say "thankyou" to waitstaff. Not very polite or warm. Freezing cold aircon and draft on a stormy night. Attract attention of the only other wait person rostered on this evening. Young chap, much friendlier and went out of his way to solve the problem quickly.
Entree- We share calamari plate. A bit pale, but OK. The other dish we shared: turkish bread, grilled sausage, kalamata olives, marinated feta, EVOO, balsamic was very average. Poor quality olives, fetta in no way appeared "marinated", and the sausage was icky. Poor show.
Mains: I ordered the FOD- snapper. Now, I do not actually know the providence of this fish, but to me it was very poor quality thin fillet and I would guess it had been frozen. Patted in flour and then fried until it was dry and tough. No sauce at all to moisten this overcooked dish. Potato was nice. Those who ordeed steaks were happy with their dishes. Just as well- a pub should get steak right. Feijoada stew was poorly presented and I was told it was a bit "like frozen seafood marinara". Pork schnitzel was bashed paper thin and completely overcooked. Dry, tough and again, no sauce to help offset the poor cooking! Salad garnishes were fresh and well dressed.
Dessert: Sticky date pudding- tiny and not served (or offered) with any cream or icecream, so it was too sickly sweet. The lime and lemon "brulee" was actually a slice of brulee tart which was quite nice but not what we were expecting!
I had been warned about The Carine by a friend who had to send back her dinner twice when she went. I choose not to heed the warning. I hope others do. This is a pub, and I wouln't be complaining so much if I was not paying decent restaurant prices for basic(and not very good) pub food.
