At the forefront of the small bar revolution in Perth, The Cabin Wine Bar & Bistro is a warm, cosy and distinctly chic drinking and dining destination to take someone who you want to impress. Like a French chalet crossed with a colonial African lodge, The Cabin's striking look incorporates animal rugs (okay, they're fake), exposed brick walls, classic leather lounges, timber communal tables and shiny, bauble-like light fittings, as well as a summery front courtyard. While the term "wine bar" appropriately covers the wide selection of international varietals The Cabin has to offer, this venue also offers a seriously seductive menu of English- and French-inspired fare by chef Shannon Whitmore. You're likely to find intriguing takes on popular dishes like lamb shanks, slow-roasted pork belly, and trio of duck.

Good night out at The Cabin
Having heard mixed reviews, I was pleasantly surprised when arriving at the Cabin. It has an interest decore of old and new artifacts plus artificially 'hunted' wildlife hanging from the walls. Only criticism is that the music overpowered the size of the small venue.
Loved the food, looking over previous reviews, perhaps we choose well. The risotto was cooked perfectly and very tasty considering it was radishes?!? We also had the duck ragout with hand made parpadelle, a favourite of mine when done well, which it was. A good serving of duck that was tender. I thought the dishes were well priced for serving size, however we did order two carbohydrate heavy dishes and therefore walked away full.
Only frustrating thing was the wine. By the time it got to 11pm, they had run out of three different white wines which i was astounded by, however our server was very apologetic and we shrugged it off. Good wine list, more on the expensive side, but they do have a cocktail happy hour every day and the cocktails looked decent.
Overall, very pleased and plan to return again soon.

Cabin Rocks!
A new experience for me...My companion and I were unsure what we felt like eating. The staff at the Cabin offered to 'decide' for us. I'm pretty fussy and would normally refuse such a request but being in the holiday spirit I gave it a shot. Our female waitperson didn't so much decide but 'guided' us through our selections. She was very imformative. I didn't feel like she was just upselling the most expensive dish either, she was honest and passionate about items on the menu and the soft shell crab was so delicious!
I also tried the Espresso Martini - yum! And so cheap for a cocktail - $11...I'll be coming back for more of that!

Big price and little serves
The food was good, but would I go back there or recommend it to others? No. It was very expensive and the servings were tiny....and I'm a small eater! Switching from a la carte to Tapas seems to have been an excuse to charge exorbitant prices for tiny portions. I wouldn't think The Cabin will last long if it doesn't do something to address this.

Not that great
Very disappointing. The Cabin is now a tapas restaurant (funny... 'tapas' means spanish snacks served as appetizers but this was not spanish). Very big prices, very small portions and not so interesting flavours. When we ordered the mains, we thought they would be decent serves but again, they were 'tapas' style. The staff were friendly, experienced and very efficient and the decor and atmosphere was great.
Reading previous reviews, I liked the sound of some of the dishes but what we got last night was a completely different and disappointing (and expensive) menu. The scallops were delicious, as was the black pudding but that's it. The beer and wine is ridiculously priced.
I've eaten at trendy wine bars in the Eastern States and although this is a new concept for WA, it doesn't come close to what it could be. Sad to say, I wouldn't recommend this place to my friends.

Birthday Lunch
A small group of us wanted to celebrate a friend's birthday so we decided to head to The Cabin for some nice drinks, lunch and birthday cake. We have heard so much nice stuff about this place so we thought we would give it a try. When we first entered the place we were very impress with the deco and atmosphere. The place was not overly crowded with tables and chairs. The lighting was good. They even have a nice outdoor area. We were greeted by a grumpy lady who feels like she doesn't want to be there. The Cabin only opens at 12pm but we arrived at 11:45am. We were told we could make our order but the kitchen is not open till 12pm. We decided on the duck, risotto and the Pemberton trout. We kindly asked the waitress to keep our 1 serve birthday cake but were greeted with an irritated look. She said that there isn't much room in the fridge and was reluctant to keep the cake for us even though it was a 1 slice cake. We kindly asked her to check and she took the cake and managed to find a spot for the cake. The menu is very limited. They mainly serve tapas food and a few main courses. The food was great. The risotto was nicely cooked. It was full of flavour. The trout was fresh. It was baked very well with crispy skin. It was not overly cooked. As for the duck it was tender and not too fat. Overall we were really impressed with the food. After lunch we wanted to eat the birthday cake and ask if we could have it. The lady rejected us saying we can't eat outside food. But it's a birthday cake! I haven't come across a restaurant, bar or any fine dining restaurant that doesn't allow someone to have their own birthday cake. She said that they serve desserts. Is desserts equivalent to a birthday cake? Anyway she wanted to charge us corkage to eat the birthday cake. How absurd! We quickly finish our drinks and paid the bill. We left after that and will never look back. Well I won't for sure.

Lost in the Woods?
Having been there for drinks once before, I decided that it looked like a fantastic place to celebrate my 4 year anniversary. The warm cosy cabin feel with big wide tables, comfy chairs and the glow of the candles.
We started on the balcony and had a few drinks before sitting down to order. A few friends who got there early were told that the waiter would come and take their order but he never came so we just ordered from the bar.
The service was fantastic when we sat down to order. I ordered 2 entrees, the duck 3 ways(needed salt) and the chicken parfait which was delicious. Then I ordered the Jacobs Ladder for my main, beef ribs(very bland) My 12 friends alternated between the fish(overcooked) and the chicken(dry and bland)I have to say that the only meal I enjoyed was the portobello mushrooms that came out with a delicious cheese topping.
At this point we were all a bit disappointed and would have liked to leave but a few of us had pre-ordered dessert. The strawberry souffle, the chocolate tart and the baked camembert and these were fantastic!
I would recommend the Cabin for drinks and dessert but not for dinner. Try and get in before summer comes and enjoy the warm and cosy atmosphere!
