It's amazing what you can do with an old rundown Perth warehouse. Retaining some of the old-fashioned charm of the exposed brick walls and high ceilings, the crew from The Bonsai Restaurant & Cafe Lounge have completely modernised this unique space to include a chic communal Japanese fusion restaurant, as well as a separate cafe lounge area with its very own in-house patisserie. Effectively two eateries in one, The Bonsai allows you to go from share plates of patagonian toothfish and hand-rolled unagi (eel) rolls, to ultra-decadent cakes and pastries made fresh from the bakery. There's nothing else like it Northbridge.

Great Japanese food
The Bonsai is a fantastic new'ish Japanese place easily accessible from Northbridge cafe strip and Perth train station. A refurbished contemporary Japanese eatery, with high ceilings, beautiful exposed brickwork and two eating halls with a different feel each side.
We went for a late dinner after a show and my partner who doesn't eat seafood actually tried the crab claws and really loved the salmon sashimi bites. The karaage style chicken was divine, as was the sliced duck - I have a weakness for both.
The food was delicious, super fresh and light while being very filling after several small dishes, so we had room for a beautifully presented creme brulee complete with powdered sugar footprints. Cute!
Service was attentive and warm.
Would love to see some Sh ch on the drinks menu, but maybe that will come in good time.
Wheelchair access is brilliant: flat entry; large accessible toilet, easy access to parking in Roe St multi storey just near the venue or street parking on quieter nights - if those exist?
Go! Love it. Nom nom nom.
