Bondi Social

Hovering above the southern end of Campbell Parade, Bondi Social is reached by entering the foyer of Cairo Mansions and ascending in the elevator to the first floor. As the doors open, the hush of the lift is broken by the sedate murmur of Bondi socialites sipping martinis and admiring the view (and each other). It is all very Bond (James Bond), but the beach print on the floor of the elevator and the occasional dreadlocked waitress are very Bondi. The space is bedecked in polished hardwood and smooth olive tones but the spectacular view makes the sophisticated interior aesthetics almost redundant. Take a seat on the balcony and admire the breathtaking aquamarine waters, white sands and tanned backpackers of Bondi Beach. The menu offers a broad range of modern Australian dishes to feast on, but there are always plenty of snacks available for people to nibble on with a glass of cool white wine or a cheeky afternoon cocktail.

Great food and a view to die for...Highly recommended.
Came here after work for a drink and decided to stay for the dinner. The place had a nice dull roar and soft lighting to take the edge off my face for my drinks companion.

We were seated on the balcony and I was struck by the brilliant view. My friend thought it might have been gotten cold but we were assured that the heaters will provide sufficient warmth. True enough.

Started off with some "sharing plates" the duck pate and the chorizo. The duck pate which was sensational - I rarely write reviews about places but this duck pate knocked my socks off.

Dinner was a little different - they maintain the "sharing plates" thematic and I am not a massive fan of sharing my chow. Having said that, we stuck with it and ordered a few dishes - the scallops, pork belly, sirloin and the barramundi with some fries on the side. The reason why I mention the fries - awesome. Well cooked and the aioli is a perfect blend of garlicky goodness. There are so many places that do fries wrong and considering how easy it is, they should take a good hard look at themselves.

The barramundi (not my choice) was the surprise package of the night, I have to say. I normally wouldn't touch fish unless it was a proper seafood restaurant - so much can go wrong. The fish was perfectly cooked with the right amount of moistness and tasted fresh (crucial). The mashy stuff worked surprisingly well - the right texture to go with the fish.

My only gripe was the service which although not bad, could have been more attentive with my drinks considering I was trying to get loaded...maybe they saw the gleam in my eye when I walked in.

When it came to settling up we had already spent a good 4 hours there drinking and eating.

All in all, great place for a date and worth getting a table together with friends to be able to try more of the stuff. Highly recommended.

I waited an hour and never got my food
Today, I decided to give the Bondi Social a go for lunch. What a waste of my time. I ordered a beef burger and it never came. The kitchen forgot and the waitress who served me never checked up on the order. The tables in front and behind me ordered their food after I did, and got theirs. I asked one of the staff if my lunch was coming and he said "5 minutes". 15 minutes later, still nothing. I then asked my waitress to check, and she said she would, but she obviously didn't because when I asked for a third time, she seemed to know not what happened with the meal. I found the man behind the bar surly and not very friendly either.
I know where I WON'T be going again. It's a pity because the view of Bondi Beach is stellar. But the whole experience was ruined by going hungry and sub-par (non-existent) service

don't go if there is a private function
We booked a table for 2 for saturday lunch on the balcony, it ended up being a miserable rainy day. you would think that since the balcony was all wet, they would move the bookings to the inside of restaurant. apparently they didn't think that was important and we had to wait for them to move a table from outside. which wasn't really a problem, i was just glad it wasn't fully booked. there was a private function that took up pretty much the whole restaurant (we were the only people there not part of this function) and the noise was unbearable. we could not have a proper conversation as we could not hear each other. it was a terrible start to a lunch we were both looking forward to! we ordered the crispy pork belly, the tasting plate, and duck pate which were all amazing. service was mediocre, we were looking for our waitress and found her sitting down talking to someone, after getting her attention she started vacantly at us and kept talking to another staff member. food was the only good thing about this place, but we still couldn't wait to get out of there.
I recommend asking if there are any privated functions when you are booking, because it totally ruined our experience.

Excellent event V=venue
We hired out the whole restaurant for a corporate event. It was extremely successful. Great environment for mid -sized group (50 people). Staff were very responsive to our needs during the evening. The food was lovely, although some of the guys complained that there wasn't enough. But overall it is an excellent venue for an event!
