If lounging in a comfy cane chair under a hundred-year-old cotton tree while pelicans at play in the nearby Maroochy River sounds like the perfect opportunity for a siesta, you'd be right. But it's worth staying awake for a cool drink and a tasty meal at this local institution. The laidback style and natural beauty of the Sunshine Coast is embodied in this friendly restaurant, where the biggest problem you'll have is what to choose from the menu. The food is as fresh and exquisite as the location. If you start with the coconut and chilli prawns with roasted banana and rum syrup, and finish with pistachio meringue and poached rhubarb, you'll have some idea of what nirvana must taste like.

Not recommended at all
In a word, one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have encountered. We booked the Boat Shed based on it s reputation and recommendations from family and friends, and I have never been so let down. The first issue we encountered was with the wine, well the lack off. The first bottle of wine we wanted was sold out, and the same with the next bottle we chose. Finally we settled on a bottle, although certainly not our first choice. Our entrees arrived soon after, and they were not too bad. Nice presentation, balance of flavours was a little off, but still they were quite nice. The mains, however, were extremely disappointing. One dish looked to be surrounded by diced frozen vegetables, the mash potato on 3 dishes was lumpy and cold, the meat on all dishes was overcooked (and on one dish totally black on one side then cleverly turned upside down in the hope we would not notice), and not one of the dishes remotely resembled how they were described on the menu. My fellow guests were unable to finish their meals, and thankfully they were removed from the bill. We did not have dessert. I would not recommend eating here, especially for the prices that you are expected to pay.

Unbeatable location
Nabbed a last minute booking on New year's day. The staff were friendly and accommodating, especially considering they were stuck working a public holiday! Food is tasty and quite reasonable, but it's the location which will take you breath away - you'll be dining right on the water - and don't forget to retire to one of the lounges with your after-dinner drink!
