Elevated on the banks of the Maribyrnong River, The Boathouse is a good sight grander than your usual boatshed. However, this recently constructed restaurant retains a cheeky hint of its waterside namesake in the timber and tin walls and the converted-warehouse feel. The latest venture by the crew behind Fenix, The Boathouse offers a semi-casual space for weekend brekkies or laidback lunches and dinners, with views of the river and lazily strolling locals. The woodfired oven dominates the space and the menu, with Mediterranean mains supplemented by a range of pizzas - these snack-size pizzettas have a traditional thin crust and a mixture of both authentic and original toppings.

Don't even bother
Went to the Boathouse for dinner, there was ten of us, very disappointing, staff were young and inexperienced. Had to ask for plates to be cleared, had to ask for menus, they had no pineapple juice, run out of sparkling mineral after one hour, desert came and should have had marcapone with the cake but it was cream, hate to see how they handle a busy night! sadly not worth the drive or money.

Would rate the food... if there'd been any!!
We arrived at 11.40am and were told that they wouldn't be taking orders for lunch until 12.00pm. We were quite happy to wait, and had coffees in the meantime. At 12.30pm we were still waiting to receive menus! People around us (who arrived long after us) were being waited upon, receiving menus and their meals, and yet we were somehow forgotten. In the end we walked out. Terrible service, we will not return.

Lovely afternoon
My partner and I were invited to lunch...., we were excited to go back after a some what average experience two years ago. Knowing that The Boathouse is owned by one of the Master Chef's gave us the modivation to give it a second go!....and the location is fantastic. We arrived and were seated promptly by a very friendly young lady and proseeded to be impressed by both the lovely food and cool, funky service. It was extremely busy but we never felt forgotten. Compliments to Gary and the crew!!!

Masterchef? Food good, service, not so much.
Went for lunch as part of being caught up in Masterchef fervour. Gary's restaurant provides a nice casual menu, with good food, but rubbish service.
No drink order for first 20 mins, plates not getting cleared between courses, hard to get attention of waiters. Seemed to need an extra 2-3 wait staff for the size crowd they had (2/3 of place was full).
On the plus side, the three cheese arincini with aioli was excellent, as was the chorizo risotto. We also had a nice vantage point from beside the open firplace.
We provided some honest feedback when paying the bill, and stratightaway they knocked 10% off without asking. That at least left us with a not-so-bad feeling...

Very poor service - everytime I go
Went to have lunch of a table of 8 and a waitress was so rude. Don't know why still there, she is so rude have gone many time but this just topped it. It's a shame as a nice restaurant. Maybe I needed to wear my cocktail dress and my husband a suit. Then maybe we might get better service. Never eat there again.
