Perched above Cottesloe Beach, there are water views from every table - though it is first in, best dressed for the primo balcony tables, as Blue Duck will not take bookings for them. In summer the sliding glass doors are flung open, allowing the Indian Ocean breeze to drift through the cobalt blue interior. Given the briny location, the menu understandably contains a lot of seafood, from grilled Shark Bay king prawns dressed with lemon, to a salmon-enhanced Caesar salad to arguably the fish 'n' chips in Perth.

It's the view...
Saying 'see ya' to a group of friend's last Sunday pre plane back to the UK... We booked a table and (on a stinking hot day in an non air conditioned main room) were offered an inside table... we asked to go outside (surprise?!), which they accommodated very quickly... Food was well presented and of well cooked quality. The value for money was a little poor (although considering what we experienced during their stay it was far better than most restaurants in Australia at the moment!!) This could be a first class world standard restaurant if given just a little more thought to the menu and ingredient co-ordination. One example was the paella which for 2 (and $80) one prawn, one scallop, on piece of fish... each. To improve this would be to increase the food quantity or change a very easily made paella dish.
Worth the view and possibilities are endless here if menu improves.

Summer's Day Delight
We arrived for lunch and were offered a table on the balcony. The view over the ocean was sensational. The waitress brought our 5-year old a colour-in kid's menu and pencils (all sharpened) and asked whether we'd like her meal brought out with the entrees or our mains. This really impressed me because many waitstaff don't bother to ask and bring the child's meal out too early. They also have a tendency to bring out blunt or broken pencils!
Because our daughter had been so well looked after, we were able to relax and soak up the atmosphere. The menu offered a number of tempting dishes - eventually I settled on the duck spring rolls and prawn & avocado pasta salad, both of which were beautifully presented and tasty.
As we were leaving, our daughter stopped to look at the aquarium which was filled with colourful fish. Staff had very thoughtfully placed stools there so that small children could get closer and look.
Simply put, a wonderful place to go on a summer's day.

Delightful meal
I went to the Blue Duck for dinner on New Years Eve, and I have to say, our waitress was amazing, the views took my breath away and the food was awesome! What I loved most about our waitress, was she really engaged with the tables she was servicing - so much so, that when some of the diners, including myself, went out onto the balcony to watch the sun go down with their glasses of champers, she was able to identify which diner's food had arrived, and informed the guests accordingly. She was just so approachable and friendly, I wish I got her name. Each course was presented beautifully, and tasted just as fantastic as it looked. I would highly recommend the Blue Duck to anyone, it really is worth a visit.
