This bright and friendly restaurant and bar spills out onto the pavement of Crown Street, making the most of the strip's vibrant and eclectic scene. Inside, the decor is light and fresh with plenty of timber, neutral tones and such funky touches as a cute tree mural on the back wall. There are plenty of tables, but the space also features a wide bar where people can dine while admiring the huge selection of liquor. Former Moog chef Brent Savage has created a modern European menu with French and Spanish influences. His menu includes a steamed bacalao with mussel, pipi and smoked potato mousse. Such sophisticated fare can be topped off by a comforting dessert like the toast custard with lychee puree and chocolate parfait. Ambrosial cuisine aside, the Bentley boasts a distended wine list of more than 200 bottles as well as a selection of cocktails.

Not Quite Nigella - "I was curious about Bentley Restaurant & Bar. It’s one of the latest restaurants with a bit of a buzz about it."
Gourmet Travller 2009 Australian Restaurant Guide - "Call it a meeting of minds. Between Nick Hildebrandt's wilful, envelope-pushing wine list and Brent Savage's ideas-rich cuisine du temps, there's creative energy to power two ordinary restaurants."

Restyled and Revived!
I went for dinner on a saturday... I rang and booked for 9pm for 2 people without any hassle early in the evening... The place was packed when we arrived, and we did have to wait almost half an hour at the bar for our table to be ready, but once seated the service was efficient and the wine list was devine.
The refurbishment has a more separated bar and dining area now and the lighting and mood work well. It looks smart, sophisticated and relaxing.
You can still nibble on sharing plates and tapas but it's the mains and desserts you should aim for.
Best meal I have had in a long long time... We had the Spatchcock and the poached snapper which were both divine, follwed by a very tasty cheese cake for desert.
I'll definitely be back for seconds!

Fabulous Experience
Myself and my partner stayed in Sydney last weekend and went to The Bentley on Saturday night for dinner, which we both really enjoyed. It certainly is a vibrant place and our first impressions were that is is quite dark and tables are quite close together. However, neither of these are a deterrent really and we had a fabulous time.
We opted for 4 tapas to share and a main course each. I must say, I read the reviews on this website and assumed the tapas portions would be tiny and unexciting. However, we found this not to be the case. Each tapas was delicious and they were well spaced out.
We asked our waiter to hold off on mains after the tapas as we were feeling slightly full, which he did. Mains were not as exciting as the tapas. However, I ordered the Angus Fillet accompanied by smoked beetroot and the smoked beetroot was a meal highlight- delicious flavours! We shared a dessert which was fine but if I were to return (and I hope I do), it would be for the excellent tapas and the attentiveness and knowledge of the staff. Really enjoyable experience all round!

Bland, expensive and miniscule
We'd heard the Bentley wasn't bad so decided to try it out. The maitre'd found us a table and the meal began well. Good bread and excellent service from our friendly and knowledgable waitress. Wine good too.
Unfortunately once the food started arriving, it was hard not to feel dismay that the hefty prices on the menu were in direct opposition to size of the portions.
Each tapas was practically the size of an amuse bouche - and further, each dish, despite its enticing description - was disappointingly bland.
The kingfish and watermelon ceviche had no highlights in its flavours. The three tiny pieces of rolled, poached rabbit were hardly a delight to the senses. The squid with inked rice was just okay.
To add insult to injury, after we'd been there less than an hour, the waitress told us we'd have to move, as they needed the table.
Not $80 well-spent. Won't be going back.

Double Your Dessert
Being accommodated at the bar last minute on a rainy Saturday night where every other place in Surry Hills (which don't take reservations) counts for a lot. Then, consider that you get the full undivided attention of the extremely well-versed bar staff. The fact that my friends and I didn't get to sit on tables didn't bother us the least after carefully suggested wines matching our very long, and very enjoyable meal.
I would go back to this place alone and still enjoy myself. You can't say there are many of those places in Sydney!
The only thing I'd do different - skip the mains, double my dessert (chocolate cone and warm banana milk - instant winner!)

Better value elsewhere
Food was good and well presented. The tapas were well received. I think the wine list is a hoax, designed to ensure that you don't know how much they are overcharging you. I've drunk a lot of decent wine in my time and I did not recognise a single bottle in their reds category. Atmosphere was noisy and crowded. All in all you will find better value elsewhere at a fraction of the cost.

Okay experience
The food tastes really good, but quite heavy stuff for lunch. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Price/quality of experience doesn't feel right: it's like paying restaurant prices at a re-painted pub!

Overpriced, overloud and undersized
A very disappointing night out. The food is well cooked and the menu moderately interesting. However, for what this place is, it is overpriced, especially considering this is basically a converted bar. On Saturday night it was loud and we had to raise out voices to make ourselves heard. The wine list, although extensive, is expensive. Overall poor value for money and not a place I will return to. We paid $75 a head for wine, tapas and main and came away feeling ripped off and headed to another restaurant for dessert.
