The Belgian Beer Cafe, Little Brussels is a welcome addition to leafy Kingston, offering a unique exploration of Belgian traditional fare. Its decor is considered, warm and elegant, aiming to mimic the brasseries of 1920s Europe. The furniture has been especially imported from overseas, and old world artefacts adorn the walls. Reflective of its authenticity, Little Brussels serves up a menu unlike anything else in Canberra, commanded by chef Jimi Tegerdine. Its signature dish, a kilo pot of mussels served with beer battered frites is an experience within itself.
A mecca for beer lovers, over 40 Belgian beers are served, with favourites Hoegaarden White and Stella Artois. Knowledgeable and friendly staff lovingly pour tap beers into glasses which are cleaned upon ordering in customary style. With seating inside and out for all moods and occasions, Little Brussels appeals to anyone with an appreciation for quality food and service.

Great atmosphere, fantastic mules
If you go on a Tuesday make sure you book as it was packed when we arrived. The staff at the bar were attentive to all areas of the bar and were quick to accomodate everyone. We ordered our food and were suprised at how quickly our food arrived. The mussels in the blue cheese sauce were tasty and went well with our chips. As we got through the mules, the shells piled up and the staff were quick remove the pile and return an empty bowl. Overall the staff were friendly and helpful. We did visit this place a couple of years ago and agree with change of management it has greatly improved.

A wonderful evening
My wife and I dined at Little Brussels earlier this week simply craving some mussels, even after reading the latest bad review on here. We decided to go on a Tuesday as it is half price mussels and after seeing the amount of hungry Canberrans with the same idea as us I was left wondering, why on Earth would you come here on a Wednesday expecting there to be any of these tasty morsels left? Although it was busy with people of all ages keen for some cheap mussels, the music was refreshing, the beers were delicious (if you like intersting glasswear, try a 'Kwak'!), and the nearly all-female staff were engaging and friendly. I would recommend Little Brussels to all lovers of beer and food, but if it's the mussels that you are after I'd reccommend maybe going on a Tuesday rather than a Wednesday, and perhaps making a booking like we plan to next time, to ensure no disappointment.

I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED!
Despite the fact that all the reviews I read on this site advised against going there, I was feeling desperate for some mussels. I ordered mussels and was then told they had not mussels - they had run out the day before. It is the main dish of the restaurant and the only reason we went there. My daughter ordered the lamb and was told they had run out of that. We asked for broccolini for my daughter rather than salad because she is pregnant. My mother's meal arrived with broccolini and my daughter's with salad. We asked for a side dish of broccolini. 20 minutes later we were told their apprentice chef had forgotten to cook it. We were then told they had run out of the main Belgian Waffle dessert. We had to ask for serviettes & cutlery. The staff seemed half asleep and spent their time chatting to a friend. All in all, I will find mussels elsewhere & will listen to these reviews a little more consistently. Kauzzie

Awful service
The service was abysmal. After half of our group had ordered dinner, the remaining half were told that the kitchen was too busy and couldn't take any more orders. An hour later, after asking the service staff multiple times if the kitchen had re-opened, we were finally able to order the remaining meals. This was despite it being a Saturday night; moreover, the cafe was not even at capacity.
There is a good range of beers but they are quite pricey (generally around $12-14 for about a small bottle). Food is highly variable in quality, with some dishes being very good but others being close to inedible.

Amazing turn around!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This place was not on my to-do list ever after going in there about 7 months ago and being horrified by the prices and abysmal selection. I reluctantly went down there with a friend who said they had really turned the place around and had flown up some fancy new chef and and manager... A change it was, this place is so much more than I thought it would be. We sat down for dinner and the choices of appetizers left our mouth watering but the best was the prices. They started at $4! They had 3 pages of beer to choose frome and 3 pages of wine. But the BEST - "Beer Cocktails"! They were awesome and I have never seen these before. 2 thumbs up guys, will be seeing you again soon.

Don't go there
This is a place to be avoided at all costs. We arrived at 8:30pm looking for a quiet, nice meal. After considering the menus, we were told that three of our choices weren't available (after we had selected them not at the time we were given our menus). Then, after waiting over 40 minutes for our meals (when the cafe was not overrun by patrons), we were told that some ingredients for a sauce accompanying one of our selections weren't available. That was it. We paid for our meals and left. The waitress was very apologetic but there was obviously a big problem in the kitchen and an even bigger problem with management. Avoid this place at all costs.

Waste of time and money - never again
Don't waste your time and money going to this place for the food or service. 1kg pot of moules mariniere is still advertised on their website for $23, when in fact they are $29. The liquid contained way too much salt and cream, and there were far less mussels in the pot compared to previous 2 visits (there will not be a fourth visit). No kids menu available, nor any assistance offered by staff to suggest something for kids. Forget trying to use an Entertainment Book voucher at this place unless you order a meal from the "main" menu which the waitress told me only applies at dinner. Apparently the 1kg pot of mussels are not classified as a "main", despite being the most expensive meal on the menu. In summary - a great place to go if you enjoy being served by disinterested staff and being charged way too much for below average food.

Depending too much on the 'image'
If you want to go for a nice expensive drink - then this is the place for you - The meals are very expensive and the service was ok - Too many 'big wig's in there for our liking though, and way too many brown noses. Also, what happened to the cheap mussels? I'm pretty sure in other states you can get the same price but 1kg on the cheap days instead of the 500g advertised here.

Dissapointed
Good place for the beer connoisseur, however the meals were expensive (with the smallest steak I think I have seen!) Service was poor and disinterested. With all the great restaurants in Kingston I would definitely choose another in the future.

Unsatisfied
Overpriced, over-rated. Great spot if you fancy a night of quiet beers with mates. However the meals aren't cheap. They are far from value for money. We tried to complain but the manager didn't seem too interested in what we had to say.

Great beers
The range of Belgian beers here is pretty good and although all imported beers are pretty pricey we still love to indulge in them. The food here was good and well priced - a little above normal pub food in quality. The service was a bit "blonde", but friendly enough.
