The Bathers' Pavilion Cafe

With views and surrounds like this one has, you really can't go wrong - and this Balmoral cafe rarely does. The menu sweeps across the Mediteranean, drawing inspiration from everywhere. While the food really is very good, it is difficult to concentrate on it when the view out through Sydney Heads is so distracting.

3 Strikes and out
I must be a glutton for punishment, but I have been to Bathers Cafe three times and three times have been rewarded with an awful experience. The first time they forgot our table, and despite asking numerous members of staff who were running around like headless chickens we finally were asked for our order after sitting around for half an hour and then the distinctly average meals turned up another 40 minutes later - strike 1. The second occasion they took our order, but brought the wrong meals to the table, and we than had to wait for them to re-order the food in the kitchen and wait all over again strike 2. And I don t know why, but I went there again last Sunday and once again we were sorely disappointed, after waiting over 40 minutes for lunch to arrive, two of the meals turned up 20 minutes after the others strike 3. To their credit the late meals were gratis, and the staff were apologetic, but that doesn t make up for three woeful experiences on the trot. Foolish me for believing it can t be that bad again , well it was sorry Bathers, but 3 Strikes and you are out.

Wonderful location but lets itself down by keeping the same menu for too long. A visit every three-six months is worthwhile but not up to scratch if you like to have a spot you visit weekly on the way home from work. Also suggest selecting wine from the restaurant wine list.
Breakfast however, is always outstanding.
