The Barn combines country charm and cosmopolitan innovation. The small, mod-Oz menu features an assortment of pasta, pork, duck, lamb, and seafood dishes as well as a popular tapas selection. With five separate dining areas, The Barn can cater for formal dinners; in the private cellar or dining room; laid-back catch ups in the court yard; or social events in the tapas lounge which doubles as an exhibition room with local artists displaying their works.

The Barn McLaren Vale
Initial impression upon entering was favourable, beautiful entrance area that was warm and inviting. Stepping down into the dining area was pleasant. We were quickly seated and advised of the "rules" - that all service was done at the table.
Offered choice of still or sparkling water. Be aware if you choose sparkling, it is decanted into another bottle (and ours was months past date) and you are charged $8.00 for a bottle of it.
Waitress took food and drink orders quickly with excellent attention to detail and knowledge. Really enjoyed the food, but this is where the good experience ended!
Plates were taken without being asked if meal was enjoyed (my husband left quite a bit of his) and we never had service again - we ran out of drinks and were never offered more and no dessert menu ever offered.
Eventually my husband had to attend the counter to pay the bill and we had coffee at home. We will never attend the restaurant again.

The Barn, McLaren Vale
I had expected so much more from The Barn, from a great first impression by the friendly staff and atmosphere. While nice tasting, the food was simply not enough, very small tapas entree and the mains was mostly lettuce. When we got the bill we were stunned, and felt like eating somewhere else on the way home. Very disappointing.
