Bird enclosure by name, funky establishment by nature, The Aviary holds its own amid the flurry of Melbourne bar/restaurant joints, at home in Little Saigon. Bulging out of a bluestone building, this venue greets you with its elegant stained-glass windows and chandelier-lit interiors, though its two levels feature slick dining areas that mix stylish modern white spaces and retro furniture (see the upstairs gallery and function areas) with a homely, European vibe (check out the fireplace and the outdoor beer garden).
Mediterranean and mod-Oz share plates are all the go for Aviarians, with peckables ranging from carpaccio to corn fritters to oven-baked quail. Main servings proffer an interesting variety of fine meat, fish, pasta, pizza and salad options, with an impressive array of gluten-free goodies, and wine suggestions for each main to sweeten the deal.

lovely
have been here twice now and both times the food and service were good - can't fault it. There is a lively bar area and beer garden outside too.
Definitely worth a look if you are in the area and don't want vietnamese!

Good fun
We were thinking of a Vietnamese feast when one of our group poo-pooed Asian and we found the perfect place, The Aviary, I had a wonderful eye fillet steak which was cooked to perfection, we all loved our food and the bottle of tempanillo was great, then cocktails. Will be back!
